Ajijic: Un pueblo con magia y tradición 

Ajijic se localiza a 40 minutos al sureste de Guadalajara (la segunda ciudad más grande de México) y está rodeado de montañas y de la belleza del lago de Chapala. Sus calles empedradas y llenas de color, sus hermosos murales, galerías de arte, plaza principal y tianguis cautivan la mirada de sus visitantes. 

Situado entre las montañas al norte y el lago de Chapala al sur, Ajijic goza de un clima templado, considerado como uno de los mejores del mundo, con una temperatura promedio anual de 22 grados centígrados ((72 ∞F).

El nombre Ajijic, pueblo fundado en 1531 y uno de los más antiguos de México, proviene del náhuatl Axixic que significa “donde se derrama el agua” o “donde brota el agua”. El 1 de diciembre de 2020, Ajijic fue declarado el noveno Pueblo Mágico del estado de Jalisco, debido a su riqueza cultural, relevancia histórica, gastronomía, artesanía y una gran hospitalidad.

Ajijic mantiene su identidad mexicana al mismo tiempo que ofrece a los turistas diversos servicios de hoteles, posadas, tiendas y una variedad de restaurantes de comida nacional e internacional, probablemente más que cualquier otro pueblo mexicano de su tamaño.

La comunidad de estadounidenses y canadienses que residen en el lugar, lo convierten en un lugar cosmopolita, lleno de arte y cultura, y un destino de descanso para las personas que ya se jubilaron.

Ajijic is located 40 minutes southeast of Guadalajara (Mexico’s second largest city) and is surrounded by mountains and the beauty of Lake Chapala. Its colorful cobblestone streets, beautiful murals, art galleries, main plaza, and farmers’ market captivate the eyes of visitors. 

Located between the mountains to the north and Lake Chapala to the south, Ajijic enjoys a mild climate, considered one of the best in the world, with an average annual temperature of 22 degrees Celsius ((72 ∞F).

The name Ajijic, a town founded in 1531 and one of the oldest in Mexico, comes from the Nahuatl Axixic meaning “where the water spills” or “where the water gushes”. On December 1, 2020, Ajijic was declared the ninth Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of the state of Jalisco, due to its cultural richness, historical relevance, gastronomy, art crafts, and great hospitality.

Ajijic maintains its Mexican identity while offering tourists a variety of hotels, inns, stores, and a wide variety of restaurants serving national and international cuisine, probably more than any other Mexican town of its size.

The community of Americans and Canadians that reside in the place, make it a cosmopolitan place, full of art and culture, and a rest destination for people who are already retired.
